Worship

The city of Kerkhoven, Minnesota, was named after Johannes and Theodores Kerkhoven, who were partners in a Dutch brokerage company that purchased bonds in 1864 for the St. Paul & Pacific Railroad, which later became the Great Northern Railway. The city itself was platted in 1870 and was initially incorporated as Pillsbury in 1881 before being renamed Kerkhoven in 1883.

The name "Kerkhoven" is Dutch and translates to "church cemeteries" or "churchyards". The family name was originally "van Kerckhoven," with "van" meaning "from," "kerk" meaning "church," and "hoven" meaning "gardens" or "yards".

In keeping with the names origins, the City of Kerkhoven and surrounding communities offer many places of worship. If your religious location is not listed and you would like for it to be included on this website, simply give us a call and we will be happy to add it to the list below.
